GLATING INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL(GIS)

GIS believe that education is more than just learning and acquiring knowledge; it’s the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world

GIS is an educational facility located in Kavili Tuunaayili in the heart of Tamale. The motto of the school is Knowledge is light. The school purposes to provide an academically nurturing and socially enriching environment for young minds to be well rounded members of society. Good education comes with a high price tag but good education is actually priceless to a discerning mind. At GIS, affordability is a key philosophy and hence we provide the highest quality of education and training at an affordable price. We promise to give parents and guardians good value for their money.

The idea of building a school has been the lifelong dream of the proprietress of the school. Her passion for school and becoming an educationist started at a tender age in Tamale. She enrolled into a teachers training collage after her GCE Ordinary level education in Ghana and proceeded to Canada in the late-80s to further her education.

Having obtained a PhD in  integrated studies in Education with specialization in the area of Policy and Gender from McGiL University in Montreal,  a  Masters’s Degree in Psycho-Pedagogy from University of Laval in Québec,  she has worked as an international Civil Servant with the United Nations in various missions around the world in various capacities. Her rich experiences gathered on her sojourns influenced her to give back to her community. The idea of a School is to add on to the few and also change the education landscape in Tamale, her birth place.

She dreamt of a school that will Provide an academic environment where all students feel Safe, Loved and Respected. Her desire is to provide a high quality child care and education in a safe, respectful and conducive environment. This passionate desire translates to a school which builds the foundation for lifelong learning and critical thinking to develop learners to their full potential. Her motivation for the school is her desire to leave a lasting legacy. A legacy of preparing and producing the leaders for the next generation and beyond. Changing times has brought to the fore the need to develop educational modules and systems relevant for contemporary times. GIS has therefore cultivated a rich human resource base to ride the storm of changing trends on the educational landscape.

After 8 years of snail pace but meticulous construction, the dream of a state of the art school facility leveraging on modern technology and rich human resources in Tamale is gradually becoming a reality. The core values of Integrity, Perseverance, courage, accountability, Teamwork and Creativity have been carefully woven into the school to ensure learners get good molding from a tender age setting them on the path of exploration and critical thinking. GIS seeks to provide a level of education which aims to bridge the educational gap between the developed and less developed parts of Ghana, one that prepares learners to reach their full potential and leave school as dynamic contributors to their communities, country and the world.

Today GIS is outdooring the first of its three phased development. This first phase is the preschool phase comprising a baby zone, crèche, nursery and Kindergarten. The second and third phases will be a primary and a secondary department respectively. The Primary and Secondary will run the GES and Cambridge curriculums.
